Watrous Fire Department
The Watrous Volunteer Fire Department has 15-20 volunteer members. The department is housed in a newly constructed 7-bay multi-purpose building. Emergency response coverage is provided for the Town of Watrous and the Watrous Rural Fire Protection Association including the Resort Village of Manitou Beach and portions of the Rural Municipalities of Wreford No. 280 (Nokomis), Woodcreek No. 281 (Simpson), Usborne No. 310 (Guernsey), and Morris No. 312 (Young).
The Fire Departments emergency response vehicles include three pumpers and a side-by-side Ultimate Terrain Vehicle (UTV). Two of the pumpers are structural pumpers with a combined pump capacity of 2750 gal/minute and the other pumper is specifically for grass fires. The UTV is a multi-purpose vehicle equipped with a firefighting skid package used for grass/brush fires.
A recent upgrade to a 17’ walk-in Rescue unit has substantially increased our emergency response capabilities. The Rescue unit is our support vehicle which responds to all calls. It is equipped with a Command center, 20kw generator, 6000 watt telescoping light tower and seating for 6. Heavy hydraulic tools, cribbing, air bags, hand tools, power tools, air tanks and a wide variety of miscellaneous equipment are carried on board, increased storage provides for future tool addition.
Our primary responses are for grass/brush fires, motor vehicle collisions, vehicle fires, Carbon Monoxide alarms, fire alarms, as well as structure fires. The department also provides traffic control and a secure landing zone for STARS Air Ambulance service.
